Introduction/Abstract

Miriam Landkammer introduces the frescoes at the Göttweiger Hofkapelle. In the neighbouring Minoritenkirche in Stein, Jiří Hájíček reads from his literary work and Martin Gut plays the Scheit. Followed by a wine reception.

Jiří Hájíček, b. 1967, is a Czech writer who lives in Budejovice. He is a double award-winner of the Magnesia Litera, the Czech Republic’s highest literary accolade, for his novels that are all set in the Southern Bohemian countryside: for his novel “Rustic Baroque” (Selské baroko) and “Fish Blood” (Rybí krev). Readers of the daily newspaper Lidove noviny nominated the novel “The Rain Stick” as book of the year in 2016. In 2017, the novel received the Czech Book Award.

Jiří Hájíček is among the most outstanding Czech writers of our time. In his rural homeland, an insomniac city-dweller finally hopes to find peace – a vain hope. Jiří Hájíček’s bestselling novel appears for the first time in German.
Schwind Kommunikation

Martin Theodor Gut plays the Scheit, the youngest ancestor of the historical family of monochords (similar to zithers). The audience can enjoy the wonderful acoustic and music created from a single string.

Miriam Landkammer is an art historian who works with numerous projects of the Institute for Medieval and Early Modern Material Culture/Krems. As part of her work she has studied the painted frescoes in the Göttweiger Hofkapelle that she will present during this talk.

A collaborative project of Literaturhaus Europa with the Kulturamt of the City of Krems

In 2019, in cooperation with the Kulturamt of the City of Krems, Literaturhaus Europa is launching a new programme of events with plenty to explore: unique places and architectural gems in Krems, which are not accessible to the general public; sounds by artists from Krems’s thriving music scene and the centrepiece of every evening is award-winning literature by European writers who read from their literary work and take time to meet an interested audience in special surroundings.
