About us

In 2015, Literaturhaus Europa was founded by institutions from six European countries with the purpose of promoting the circulation of European contemporary literature. The collaborative approach offers insights across national borders to those who are interested in culture and in Europe’s literary life, and to raise awareness for the latest trends in European literature. Literaturhaus Europa is a networking platform for writers across linguistic borders, inspiring their output of new texts and inviting culture enthusiasts to meet international writers in an intellectually stimulating context. The debate with writers explores different perceptions, ideas and realities and highlights current European cultural themes.

Literaturhaus Europa hosts events in Budapest, Hamburg, London, Ljubljana and Paris along with its annual highlight of the European Literature Days in Wachau. During this literature festival, the emphasis is on getting to know Europe’s literature, its multilingual quality and to join in the discussion about current European themes.

Literaturhaus Europa has also set up an Observatory for European Contemporary Literature. Its purpose is to monitor, review and circulate an overview of literary trends in Europe. The website www.literaturhauseuropa.eu and an annual web-based and print edition enables the Literaturhaus Europa to provide regular updates about literary trends in the different European linguistic areas and to publish texts about literature and Europe.
